Ferrari Ki Sawaari Movie Review

Ferrari Ki Sawaari Movie Review
Ferrari Ki Sawaari is entertaining, moving right, but it falls short of being a perfect and a great film. Wish the film ended half an hour before or at least the director could have curtailed the wedding episode giving it a crisp look but overall it's quite an effort to make a story on three people from a Parsi family, in fact you can see mostly men on the screen and the wedding planner is the lone female who is huge and dominates the characters albeit for a brief while.

A father hides his middle class family problems behind a smiling face and struggles to send his son to London for a training camp in cricket. We have seen if not umpteen, quite a few films on a father, a widower working towards fulfilling every need of his child, here debutant director Rajesh Mapuskar adds a fourth character, a Ferrari to give the story a complete look. A young 12 year old, greatly talented in cricket is given a well-mannered, sensitive and a simple upbringing.

His father sees that he is given the right values in life, so much that he breaks the traffic rules by mistake and goes up to the police to pay the fine even when he isn't asked. When the constable asks him why he is taking the pain to pay when none have noticed he remarks that he's been noticed by his son and if he doesn't respect the rule, there is every possibility that he will follow his father.

There is a grandfather played by Boman Irani once a Ranji player now obese, unkempt and spends all his time on an arm chair eating and watching TV. His life is so sedentary that he will not turn his face and uses a hand mirror to see what's happening behind his back. Sharman Joshi's smile is so wide and clear that you fail to notice the tears in his eyes, you do not know sometimes if he is happy or sad yet the director is successful in conveying simple emotions and establishes a perfect chemistry between the trio.

The problem begins when a coach from London visits the school, notices young Ritwik's work with the willow and says, "You could be bowling to Shane Warne or Sachin Tendulkar at the Mecca of Cricket." The immediate task is to raise a few lakhs for the training camp and Sharman Joshi fails to secure a loan. A wedding planner who is in a soup for promising a party that she will arrange a Ferrari for the baarat is behind Sharman to help him for which she will arrange the money for his son.

Now very few people in Mumbai have a Ferrari and all eyes are on Sachin Tendulkar's Gaadi. The rest of the film is how Sharman's problems mount when he steals Sachin's Ferrari. Will he be able to send his son to London and is it the end of the problem or are there more? There are a few moments in the film that you will identify as a parent and as a common man but again realism goes for a toss when in the second part, the kid goes on a fantasy drive in the Ferrari that doesn't gel with the story at all.

At this point even if he had ended the film, now that the money from the Ferrari has been recovered it would have made sense, but the drama stretches by another half an hour. The narrative in between becomes slow and tiring, some scenes become predictable and some difficult to believe. There is an explanation given that Sharman has a great IQ and knows everything about cars, but wonder how a head clerk who drives a scooter in a first attempt drives a Ferrari with finesse and comfort.

Vidya Balan's item number is rightly timed and Paresh Rawal's interaction with Boman Irani and the outcome gets obvious. The only entertainment comes in the form of Seema Pahawa, the wedding planner who barges into a gents toilet and is comfortably and nonchalantly talking business with Joshi. Cinematography is good, dialogues are strictly average and the film like we mentioned above is just okay.

Gangs Of Wasseypur Movie Review

Gangs Of Wasseypur Movie Review

 Gangs Of Wasseypur Movie Review
Don't run to this film because it is by Anurag Kashyap. Too many characters and too lengthy a drama and there is nothing to warrant your attention unless you are a Manoj Bajpai's fan. Anurag Kashyap falls just short of being compared to Ramgopal Varma in this dragging, dreary, boring and pointless venture.

The effort is herculean yes but is there anything in the story that will make you wait for part II as well? The changing relationships of the people and the changing history of Wasseypur go hand in hand but one thing remains constant..the bloody violence and intermittent sex. Raw, rustic, detailed and tiring it will take you through Wasseypur from the 40s to the time Amitabh Bachchan's Trishul has released.

From coal mining to fishing, from sepia-tinted and black and white visuals to the time when women are stocking up fridges and using vacuum cleaners. The story is about the rivalry between the Khans and the Qureshis, it doesn't end with one killing, by the time the credits roll through Manoj Bajpai is shot but we really don't care to even ponder what could happen next to his sons in the sequel.

One line sums up the synopsis and mood of the film, "Yahan par kabootar bhi ek pankh se udtha hai or usi pankh se apna ijjath bachatha hai." There is a lot you can learn from the title, so it is replete with guns, stabbings and slaughtering people.

A man leaves his wife and takes fancy for a Bong. His kids from his first wife get the message, "Abbu paisa dena band kardiya, kaam karke do paisa kamao," and when they work instead of going to school, the enemy gives them a thousand rupee note and tells them to hand it over to their mother. This mother takes pride in herself and her husband's earnings and beats the sons black and blue but the same mother sleeps with the guardian in the house.

The director overdoes certain aspects, Khan shuttling between the two wives evokes humour not a serious story, even when his son is injured the manner in which he compels the doctor to begin the treatment in the darkness doesn't seem genuine. The end to the first part of the film is not surprising, the Bong wife takes her revenge as she has long declared she won't be the baby making machine.

Strange, nearly half of her role Durga is silent and you wonder if she is dumb, anyways it makes no difference even if she had spoken any dialogue, she has done her job well through her expressions. The casting couldn't have been better and the music too is just right and goes with the Dhanbad Hindi.

The writing is good but there is no reason in building a narrative without a purpose, it's the same and different characters stabbing and shooting. The scenes move in quick succession and it doesn't give one time to think, there is a commentary on the topography of Wasseypur but after that too many dates and timelines make it difficult to follow and have a grasp of the characters, it is only in the second half some interest moves in but it isn't a big deal.

Reema Sen and Richa Chaddha are brilliant in this boring and monotonous drama. There's lust, urge for love, revenge, loose morals, expletive language and scenes that look recycled and end no where in this Gangs of Wasseypur.

Saguni Movie Review

Sakuni Review – Saguni Movie Review, Rating, Sakuni Telugu Film Review: Karthi’s latest Tamil film Saguni comes to Telugu as Sakuni. Praneetha, Prakash Raj, Radhika and others played important roles in this film. Here’s the review..
Banner: Green Studio Banner
Cast: Karthi , Pranitha
Music: G. V. Prakash Kumar
Producer: Bellamkonda Suresh
Directer: N. Shankar Dayal
Story:
Kamal Krishna (Karthi) comes to ask the help of ministers to save his house from being taken by the government for a railway project. But the chief minister (Prakash Raj) insults him and throws him out. Kamal decides teach him a lesson and starts a political game. How does he win over the chief minister forms rest of the story.

Analysis:
Sakuni is a political drama with entertaining elements. The film opens on an entertaining note and doesn’t bother about the story until the interval point. Actual story starts in the second half and it is mostly about the political game that is played by the hero.

Weak villain and poorly conceived scenes didn’t help the film to involve the audience in the story. Villain simply says that it is not right time to teach the hero a lesson. He doesn’t bother to take him out despite him being a threat to his power. Director didn’t try to narrate the story in a multidimensional format. The narration was too one sided in the entire film.

Director didn’t use the heroine thread in the second half. Roja’s character was completely forgotten in the second half. Villain doesn’t try to stop the hero and shatter his plans. Despite being a CM of the state he starts fearing that he would beat him.

This one dimensional dealing of the story didn’t generate interest and the film hardly engages. There were few references to the current state of politics and the people who follow politics may connect to those scenes. On a whole, except for few comedy dialogues Sakuni was disappointing.

Performances:
Karthi was good in his role. Proper care should have been taken care on his characterization. There were sudden jumps in his character shades and that were not at all convincing. Praneetha was limited to songs. Prakash Raj was Okay. Radhika was good and so were Kota and another senior actor Nasser. Santhanam provided few laughs. Anushka played a cameo which was fine.

Technicalities:
Prakash Kumar’s music was disappointing. Songs were very bad and the background score was the biggest drawback. Cinematography was good. Editing was adequate. Production values were nice and rich.

Shankar Dayal lacks the skills of storytelling. He took an interesting plot but failed to execute it well. A gripping screenplay could have done world of difference to this film.

Plus Points :
Karthi looks handsome and he employs his killer smile to great effect in the movie. He has natural charm and his performance is relaxed. His efforts to dub in Telugu are worth appreciating and it actually works very well. He shoulders the movie admirably and gives a very convincing performance. Full Marks!

The second half of the film is quite entertaining and the pace is good. The satires on the political system and the schemes between the opposing political parties will work well with the audience, given the current political climate in the state. Prakash Raj is good as the evil CM Bhupathi. This performance is a cakewalk for him. Santhanam brings a few laughs at Auto Driver Rajini and his scenes with Karthi are good in places.

Radhika delivers a good performance as Ramanakka. Kota Srinivasa Rao and Nasser are pretty decent. Anushka and Roja have small cameos and it is good to see Anushka after a long time on the big screen.

Minus Points :
Pranitha is not very impressive as the lead heroine. She does not have the glamour to match Karthi and her role is actually quite small. Her romantic track with Karthi has been handled poorly. The first half of the film is a big let down and the story does not move forward much. The non linear narration can actually get a little boring in the first half.

The actual plot is not too impressive and if not for the entertaining political satires in the second half, the movie would have had a tough time. Though Karthi’s ancestral property is at stake in the film, the emotional conflict about this is not portrayed very well. A stronger emotional motive would have helped.

The songs act as mere speed breakers and their placement in the movie could have been better.

Final Word:
Sakuni may appeal to the entertainment seekers. There were few decently canned scenes and humorous dialogues. But this film demands an engaging narration and that was completely missing. You may watch it if you have nothing better to do.
